Baroque Suburb

Baroque suburb

Built in a standardised type of construction on small parcels of land since 1685, after the demolition of the city wall by Prince  Georg August Samuel and planned as an expansion of the city. All houses are of equal height but differ in width.

Typical characteristics of the Baroque Suburb are wooden yard gates, partly with portals and the so-called "Idsteiner Eingang" (Idstein doorway) with stony stairs and windows of small format.
