Deutsche Fachwerkstraße
The German Road of Half-timbered Architecture, founded in 1990, runs meanwhile from the river Elbe to the Lake Constance through six federal states (Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Hesse, Thuringia, Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg) and is divided into nine regional routes.
In the meantime, more than 100 framework towns have joined up under the slogan "Framework unites" in order to coordinate their marketing. The German Road of Half-timbered Architecture does not only join unique landscapes, historic sites and carefully restored monuments but above all links the people who live and work here.
Idstein belongs to the regional route "From the Lahn Valley to the Rheingau Region". This tour will take you from the Lahn Mountains and the banks of the river Dill to the quaint towns near the river Lahn and further into the wine growing regions along the rivers Main and Rhine.

Deutsche Limesstraße (German Limes Road)
UNESCO world heritage LIMES
The German Limes Road goes along with the Upper Germanic – Rhaetian Limes from the Rhine to the Danube. Most of the forts were founded at the beginning of the 2nd century and existed until the dilapidation of the limes, i.e. the end of the Latin occupation around 260/270 AD.
The limes ranged over a length of more than 500 km from Rheinbrohl to Regensburg.
The limes around Idstein has a length of 15 km. Remains of the defences have been found in the districts of Ehrenbach, Eschenhahn, Idstein, Dasbach, Lenzhahn, Heftrich, Kröftel and Ober-Niederrod. Near Dasbach you find the probably best reconstruction of a limes watch tower. The area of the fort "Alteburg-Heftrich" is also well worth seeing.
